Iqbal Day Celebrated at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies

Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS), in collaboration with the Embassy of Pakistan in Tashkent, celebrated Iqbal Day with a special event dedicated to the theme “A Call for Harmony and Tolerance in the Poetry of Allama Iqbal.”

The ceremony was graced by the Ambassador of Pakistan to Uzbekistan, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Farooq, as the Chief Guest, and attended by Rector of TSUOS, Prof. Gulchehra Rikhsieva, faculty members, students, and international scholars. Associate Professor Ms. Shagufta Firdous from Women University Sialkot, Pakistan, joined the event online.

In her opening remarks, Prof. Gulchehra Rikhsieva highlighted that TSUOS celebrates Iqbal Day annually in partnership with the Embassy of Pakistan, acknowledging the university’s longstanding commitment to promoting Urdu language and Pakistani literature. She described Allama Muhammad Iqbal as a multi-dimensional personality—poet, philosopher, lawyer, and political thinker—whose legacy offers inspiration to all.

Addressing the audience, Ambassador Ahmed Farooq emphasized the significance of Iqbal’s universal message, noting that Pakistani culture, history, and Urdu literature remain incomplete without Iqbal’s philosophical contributions. He stressed that Iqbal’s ideals transcend geographical boundaries and represent a shared moral heritage for humanity. The Ambassador further highlighted Iqbal’s call for self-awareness, spiritual elevation, and service to mankind. The Ambassador praised TSUOS for continued commitment to promoting shared intellectual traditions and deepening academic engagement between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

The event also featured a cultural segment, where TSUOS students performed Iqbal’s poetry, including the celebrated poem “Parindey ki Fariyad,” and presented the song “Shukriya Pakistan.” The ceremony concluded with a group photo session.
