Message from Syed Ali Asad Gillani, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Uzbekistan

Right to Self-Determination Day, 5 January 2022
Every year, 5th January is commemorated as the Right to Self-Determination Day for the people of Jammu & Kashmir, reminding the world community that its solemn pledge to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) is yet to be honoured.

The importance of the inalienable Right to Self-Determination has been acknowledged in various human rights Covenants and Resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council. Owing to Indian intransigence, the Security Council has failed to fulfil its commitment to the Kashmiri people, even after the passage of 73 long and brutal years.

For over seven decades, the life of three generations of Kashmiris has been a chronicle of state-sponsored cruelty and terrorism. It is the responsibility of international community and UN to ensure fulfilment of the promise of granting the Right to Self-Determination to the Kashmiris.

For its part, Pakistan will continue to extend all possible support for the just cause of the people of Jammu & Kashmir till the realization of their Right to Self-Determination in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions.
